Mendip Special Needs School

The Mendip schools aim is to replicate the innovative, highly regarded and successful approaches developed at Fosse Way School. Creating a high quality alternative to a mainstream provision in which children with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder or Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) from ages 4-19 will thrive.

Built by Sir Robert McAlpine, one of the challenges faced was the heating system. Feedback from Teachers at the associated Fosse School were that Underfloor heating created problems. This was because a great many activities with the pupils took place on the floor and it proved a distraction to learning and that response times caused issues with over and under heating. After considering all other options, SRM opted for the healthcare version of ThermaSkirt – known as the EasyClean.

With a sealed edge top & bottom, the Easyclean operates at a naturally low surface temperature, saving energy and space. The absence of grilles or slots makes it err…Easy to Clean, and with no hard edges or steel covers to create a fall hazard, the EasyClean is ideal for heating and safeguarding vulnerable young persons. The system has just gone through the harsh Winter of 2017/18 without issue.
