Innovative housebuilder Kingswood Homes has teamed up with DiscreteHeat to offer its customers the choice of having ThermaSkirt heated skirting board installed in their homes, instead of radiators.
Kingswood Homes is different from most house builders because it offers flexible floor plans, putting customers in charge of their internal layout. The ‘Shape your home’ concept means they can choose to have fully open plan living downstairs or they may prefer a separate lounge and dining room, or a home office or playroom. And they can choose to add or remove bedrooms and add additional en-suites.
Laura Hughes-Jones, Sales and Marketing Coordinator at Lancashire-based Kingswood Homes, explains how the company is offering ThermaSkirt as an option in all its new homes.
“ThermaSkirt is an optional upgrade in all our house types, which range from three to six bedrooms. There’s a choice of adding it to the whole home or by floor.
The feedback we’ve received is that customers love the way it makes each room look clean and uncluttered.
It allows them to use wall space more practically and be even more flexible with where their furniture can be placed without blocking any heat.
There are different heights, styles and colours of skirting to choose from, to suit their preferred style which is another bonus.”
At the moment, Kingswood Homes come with a gas fired combi or system boiler, but ThermaSkirt can work with any heating system. Joel Winders, Kingswood Homes’
Commercial Director, says:
“If the ThermaSkirt is sized to run off a heat pump, it's effectively future proofing the house from day one, even though the boiler should last 10 to 15 years.
It gives the homeowner the peace of mind that when they do need to replace the boiler, they can install an air source heat pump with much less disruption in the house.”
Martin Wadsworth is the Managing Director of DiscreteHeat, the company behind ThermaSkirt.
“We’re pleased to be working with developers like Kingswood.
They've adopted ThermaSkirt because of what it offers their clients in terms of comfort and space saving, without having to go to larger radiators.
At the moment, they're still using it with gas boilers set at 55 degrees, but they are advertising the properties as being heat pump ready. For a lot of house purchasers, this is an important factor.
They're not going to have to have lots of upheaval or modify the house significantly when they do adopt a heat pump in the coming years.”
ThermaSkirt is extremely flexible. It can be installed throughout the home, or if underfloor heating is being installed on the ground floor during construction,
it can be fitted on the upper floors instead of, or in addition to, radiators. It works with any heating system – gas boiler, heat pump or electric heating – and is controlled like conventional radiators,
using thermostats and timers or smart controls. It is much more responsive than underfloor heating, warming up much quicker, and replaces the need for oversized, low temperature radiators.
ThermaSkirt carries ISO 9001 accreditation and is CE marked. It is available in a choice of profiles and colours, and is pre-finished with hardwearing epoxy powder coat paint.
It is available in lengths up to six metres or can be provided pre-cut to exact room size and is much easier to store on site than oversized radiators.
It combines skirting boards and heating in one, and its unique and patented push fit connectors ensure quick and easy installation that usually only requires one tradesperson.
DiscreteHeat can provide onsite training and technical support if required.
